First-year Varsity Blues standout Tamara Jewett has been named to the team that will compete at the 2009 World Cross Country Championships in Amman, Jordan, as announced by Athletics Canada on March 17th.

The championships, which take place March 28, 2009 in the nation’s capital, will mark the first time in the championships’ history that they are held in the Middle East.

Earlier this month, Jewett earned a sixth-place finish at the fifth annual North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) cross country championships.

Under the guidance of coach Jill Mallon, Jewett was named the OUA and CIS cross country rookie of the year for being the first rookie runner to cross the finish line at both events. The arts & science major was named an OUA first team all-star as well as a CIS first team all-Canadian, and became the first Varsity Blue to win the CIS cross country community service award.
