Bruce has served on numerous international and Canadian advisory boards and commissions, including the National Advisory Council of Fitness and Amateur Sport, Stadium Corporation of Ontario, Toronto bid committees for the 1996 and 2008 Olympics, Secretary of State’s Advisory Committee on Canadian Sport Policy, Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada, and Sport Canada Research Initiative.
He is currently the chair of the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport, and a member of the Selection Committee, Postgraduate Research grant Program, Olympic Studies Centre, International Olympic Committee.

Athletics
Member of the University of Toronto track and field organization since 1958. Won 18 national senior championships in Canada, the United States, and Britain and held numerous records, including four world junior records. Gold and bronze medalist at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. Member of the 1964 Olympic Team.

In 1997, the Canadian Sports Awards created the Bruce Kidd Trophy to honour an outstanding national team athlete who has given significant leadership to sports

In 2004, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada
In 2005, he received the Canadian Olympic Order and a lifetime achievement award from the North American Society of Sport History. In 2006, he was given a lifetime achievement award from the Commonwealth Sports Foundation.
