Supervision Requirements

Parents/guardians are responsible for their children at all times. Children 12 years of age and younger must be supervised by an adult at all times. Some facilities have their own supervision requirements; please ask if you have any questions. Unaccompanied minors (17 and under) are not permitted to enter or use the facilities unless formally registered in a program.

A Teaching Health Centre

The Faculty of Physical Education and Health is a teaching health centre. Health research and academic instruction are conducted alongside our co-curricular programs. Many Junior Blues instructors and staff are also students, putting into practice the theories they learn in the classroom via our academic and co-curricular programs. Junior Blues participants may be asked to participate in our physical education and health research on a voluntary basis. We ask all participants to be respectful of the learning environment.

Notice to Participants

Each person entering these areas for the purpose of participating in any athletics program must be a registered participant or an authorized guest. The Faculty of Physical Education and Health has the authority to revoke or suspend rights and privileges when offending behaviour is exhibited. Offending behaviour includes but is not limited to: disorderly conduct, disruptive behaviour, persistent disregard of facility rules and regulations, default in payment of program fees. For the safety of all our members and participants, we enforce a "no card, no entry" policy.

Parents!

Why not get in a workout while your little ones play? We have year-long, four-month and one-month memberships. Day passes are also available. For more information contact the Main Office at 416.978.3436 ext. 0. Parents without memberships cannot use the facilities while their children are attending programs.

Children of U of T Students DISCOUNT

Children of full- and part-time University of Toronto students receive a 15% discount off the regular Junior Blues fees. The University of Toronto student must be the main contact for the family account for children to receive this fee

Children of Members DISCOUNT

Children of members receive a 10% discount off the regular Junior Blues fee. Parents/guardians who are eligible must contact the main office within three weeks of registration to have their membership verified and the discount applied.

Age Guidelines

Age guidelines for Junior Blues programs are based on a child's developmental stage, the facility in which the program is held and individual program goals. Your child's safety and enjoyment are important to us. We ask that all parents and guardians adhere to the age guidelines.

All children participating in classes for three- and four-year-olds MUST be the minimum age specified in the class description by the first day of class. All children participating in classes for those five and over must be the minimum age specified in the class description by the last day of class. If you would like to enroll your older child in a program that is set for younger children, please contact the main office. Programs for children under three are family programs and require an adult to attend and fully participate with the child. One adult per child is required.

Cancellations/Low Enrollment

Classes are occasionally cancelled due to special events or holidays. Cancelled classes are listed on your receipt and on the parent information package. The Faculty reserves the right to cancel a program due to low enrolment. Classes may be combined if enrolment is low.

Refund Policy

If the Faculty cancels a class or program, we offer a 100% refund. If parents/participants make a cancellation, they will be refunded the full program amount less a cancellation fee of 10% of the registration fee or $5, whichever is greater. In order to receive this refund, participants must withdraw prior to the second class. We do not offer discounts for unattended days in any program. Refunds must be request by March 1 for March Break camps. Refunds for clinics (certifications and Wen-do) must be requested four business days before the start of classes or the full fee will be charged.

Refunds for medical reasons Participants withdrawing for medical reasons will receive a full refund for the remainder of the program. A doctor's note will be requested. Notes must be received within two weeks of the date of illness.

Refund policy for full year registrations Some programs, such as the Gymnastics Girls Enhanced program and the Track and Field Trackniques program, require full year registration. To withdraw from these programs, a participant will be charged an administrative fee equal to the amount of the fees for the upcoming month. For example, a participant who leaves during January will be charged the amount equal to February fees. Refunds for full year programs will not be considered after March 1, 2010 except for medical reasons.

Accessibility, Equity and Diversity

The Faculty of Physical Education and Health is committed to equity and inclusiveness and is working to develop fully accessible programs, services and facilities. We welcome all members of the community and encourage our members to participate in our wide variety of programs. Please email junior.blues@utoronto.ca for assistance.

Change rooms

Children 5 years and younger may use either gender change room under adult supervision. Children 6 years and older must use gender-specific change rooms or family/privacy change rooms. All children under 12 must be supervised by adults in change rooms.

Allergies & Other Medical Conditions

Allergies - particularly severe allergies to nuts - have become an increasing problem. To ensure the safety of all Junior Blues participants, do not send your child to the facility with snacks containing nut products.

If your child has allergies or any medical condition that we should be aware of, please let us know at the time of registration. Please also speak with your child's instructor about any conditions that could impact your child's experience.

In the event of an emergency we will make every attempt to contact the parent(s) or guardian(s) listed on the account. If we are unable to reach parents/guardians we will contact the person listed as the alternate emergency contact. Please keep the contact information (home phone, cell phone or work phone) current on your family account. Call the main office at 416.978.3436 ext. 0 to update your account.

Sick Children - When To Stay Home

A sick child can infect other participants and staff and runs a greater risk of injury in sport and recreation programs. If your child has any of these symptoms within 24 hours of his/her scheduled program, please keep him/her at home:
  • Fever
  • Diarrhea - defined as two or more loose stools**
  • Vomiting - more than once
  • Rash or other skin infection, including persistent itching or scratching
  • Excessive coughing, wheezing or a runny nose with green or yellow mucus
** When people are ill with diarrhea, their stool can contain millions of germs. If someone with diarrhea contaminates the pool water, swallowing the water can make others sick. If a child has any diarrhea, he/she should remain at home and not participate in swimming. For more information, visit www.healthyswimming.com.

Pictures

For permission to take photos in our facility, please contact the program manager or email junior.blues@utoronto.ca for more information. Aquatics, gymnastics and skating have designated picture weeks for parents/guardians to take photos. Watch for signs announcing picture week. Because the field house is used for many other activities while Junior Blues is taking place, multisport, tennis and track and field do not have picture weeks.

Wait Lists*

Programs can fill up quickly. If your class of choice is sold out, your child can be added to the wait list online or in person at the Athletic Centre. If space becomes available you will be notified by email and have two business days to complete the registration in person or by fax.

If your preferred time for the class is sold and you are interested in registering for another time slot AND remaining waitlisted for your preferred time registration MUST be done in the following order to stay waitlisted for the preferred time:

1. Register for the class in the less preferred time slot.
2. Return to the preferred time slot and wait list your child.

If this order is not followed waitlisting for the preferred time slot and then registering in a class with the same name REMOVES your child from the wait list.

Need A Receipt Reprinted?*

If you need a copy of your receipt, please contact the main office at 416-978-3436. A receipt will be emailed to you or left for pick-up.

*Communication about wait lists and receipts is handled via email. Ensure your email address is accurate and will accept emails and attachments from ac.help@utoronto.ca and junior.blues@utoronto.ca.
