New academic plan set to launch
The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education’s new academic plan has been approved for implementation after a rigorous consultation process. Faculty Council unanimously approved of the proposed plan in October, in accordance with University of Toronto policy, fulfilling the final official requirement of the procedure.
On November 21, the plan was shared with the Academic Board—this was the final presentation of several made to committees of Governing Council. These sessions provided an opportunity to share the revised vision for the Faculty with the broader University community and receive feedback on the plan.
The entire process has taken two years and involved thorough consultations with a broad range of stakeholders including students, student-athletes, faculty, staff and partners. The set of strategies in the new plan will help the Faculty realize its vision of national and international excellence in research, learning and practice.
This is the first academic plan in the Faculty’s history to consolidate curricular and co-curricular strategic objectives. “This integration fuels our passion and differentiates this Faculty from other divisions at the University of Toronto,” says Professor Ira Jacobs, dean of the Faculty. “It also makes us an increasingly rare breed among the myriad of kinesiology and physical education programs in the country. This new academic plan signals our desire and intent to take full advantage of the fertile research, learning and experiential platforms afforded by our integrated Faculty.”
The final plan is available online here. It will be in place until 2018.
